Description

Thankfully the monsoons have moved away and we are back to imaging in the East Phoenix Valley.

This target was selected as a test of my revised procedures for acquiring flats, calibrating, and imaging settings selected to eliminate the effects of residual bulk image characteristics of the GSENSE 4040 sensor in the Diffraction Limited Aluma AC4040 camera. I needed a good dusty region with faint details across the field to check for sensor patterns after significant number of frames have been integrated.

I think I am finally there, and the use of the Flat panel versus sky flats allows me to acquire more flat subs to reduce the noise of the low ADU flats (400-600 ADU) needed to squash RBI in the flats. I am also using the High Stack Pro mode to stack 1 minute subframes on the camera during the 4 minute acquisition of each light sub. I am pleased with the low level detail that results. Compared to images from last year, there is a world of difference where black point clipping was needed to hide the fixed pattern noise in my images.

This learning curve has been a hard one. Many thanks to all those who interacted to suggest possibilities. If I can help you, just drop me a message.
